International Meteorological Organization Prize
The International Meteorological Organization Prize was established in 1956 and is awarded annually by the World Meteorological Organization. It recognizes outstanding scientific contributions to meteorology and, since 1971, operational hydrology. The award consists of a 57 mm 14-carat gold medal bearing the WMO emblem and a cash prize of 10,000 Swiss Francs. The reverse of the medal features the Latin inscription “Pro singulari erga scientiam meteorologicam merito,” meaning “for outstanding work on the science of meteorology.” The prize is named in honor of the International Meteorological Organization, the predecessor of the current WMO.
