Explanation
Around every cell there are plenty of salt ions called sodium and potassium. Mr. Skou discovered a protein that works like a pump, pushing sodium out of the cell and pulling potassium in. Thanks to this pump, our nerves can send electrical messages and our hearts beat steadily.
